The company Uesugi Farms in Gilroy, California/USA, produces, packages and ships paprika, chilli, Chinese cabbage, bok choy, squash and other vegetables. In 2010, the company
increased the area under cultivation in California and Mexico by 25% up to a total of 2630 hectares. As part of a growth step in the previous year, Uesugi Farms added a new cold
store of around 2300 m2 to the two existing cold stores in Gilroy.
This third building is operated 8 months a year depending on the season, and consists of two cold rooms at a temperature of 0 °C or 7 °C in which products such as Chinese
cabbage, strawberries or paprika are stored. Inside the new cold store, the company's own four-way pallets with a weight of up to 1120 kg are conveyed and stored using an
Interroll FIFO flow storage system.
The flow storage system has full-width conveyor rollers, as well as loading and unloading modules and space for forks. To ensure smooth operation, the conveyor rollers are in the
form of galvanized pipes running on stainless steel bearings. Thanks to the cold store and the Interroll pallet storage solution, Uesugi has been able to increase its throughput.
Trucks are loaded quickly and efficiently without long waiting times.
